In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxEQChCh, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxEQChCh event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
We’re honoured to have TEDxEQChCh included in this amazing book about 153 transitional projects in post-quake Christchurch. Beattie’s book Blog says, "This is a significant, inspiring piece of publishing, something to treasure especially by all whom have been affected by the Christchurch earthquakes, but also to the wider NZ community. I shall value my copy."
A lovely piece has just been written on one of the amazing speakers at TEDxEQChCh, Alexandros Washburn, in the New York Times. The story discusses the importance of design in urban planning: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/11/realestate/alexandros-e-washburn-what-...
This week's TEDx Editor's Pick is our very own Abbas Nazari, speaking at TEDxEQChCh! Nazari received a standing ovation following this moving talk and, as the TEDx Editor’s agree, is well worth a watch. http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/A-Journey-From-Afghanistan-Ab-2;Featured-...
Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum, have made a mini-documentary on TEDxEQChCh 2011: The Re-imagination of Christchurch. This is a nice summary of the event, discussing the origins of TED, and how it developed in Christchurch to the success it was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZqJalEF2i0
We are so proud of TEDxEQChCh 2011 speaker Grant Schofield. The stand he is making for a better, healthier office is certainly gaining momentum. http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/7779501/Standing-up-for-office-health
And TEDxEQChCh has wrapped up another hugely successful event in 2012. The sell out crowd were treated to over 15 speakers discussing a myriad of topics. Standing ovations were given to many, including Abbas Nazari, who detailed his emotional trip of risk and courage from Afghanistan to New Zealand, and Ryan Reynolds, who spoke about finding opportunity by asking not what permits disallow, but what they allow. TEDxEQChCh “was such a banquet of mind food that we gorged ourselves to full stretch”, setting a benchmark for 2013 to follow.
